1990 244 AW70 vs AW70L?

Hi all,

My 1990 244 at 256,000+ miles has a bad AW70 transmission. I'm looking to get a good used unit from a salvage yard.

Currently it seems that the AW70 is becoming more expensive, and a bit harder to find.

Is there a difference between the AW70 and AW70L, or is the only difference the torque converter? I assume I can reuse my old one.

Mate the correct TC to the correct transmission.

Penny wise, pound foolish...in fact, get a rebuilt TC if for the lockup version.

Aw70L is with the lockup torque converter, use the torque converter that matches the transmission.

So the AW70L is the same transmission as the AW70???

I'm not sure if they are the same, but you can use the AW70L with it's torque converter in your car.
