1998 S70 steering rack types
Hi all - I have noticed that I need to replace inner & outer tie rods as well as struts/seats as the front end of my 98 S70 is getting a bit noisy. However, I am unsure of how to determine which steering rack I have to make sure I get the right inner rods. Any help? TIA

Inside the engine compartment on the driver side on the inner fender there should be a product ID plate. On the right side column follow it down to the last series of numbers. The last number in that sequence should be a 4 or 5. If it is a different number or not present, you will have to visually check the rack body or inner boots for a manufactures mark to identify. Hope this helps.
Always first off the line, while all the cool people are still staring at their phones.

The number that ends with a 4 or 5 is supposed to be an 8 character alphanumeric. Both my 98s, (S and V)are early production and only have seven characters. This is also supposed to indicate a TRW rack. If there is doubt, or you suspect something may have been changed, visual inspection is best means.
