Favorite Head Unit? s70

You're guaranteed to break something by removing your door panel. That top triangle piece has one of three mounting points still in tact that have been damaged since I bought it. I'm on my 3rd driver door speaker, and it finally works very well!

+1 to the breaking something when removing door panel.

The plastic is brittle and the removal of the various parts isn't always logical.

I've put in a Pioneer DEH-X9600BT in my 850. It has decent sound, the back light color and intensity can be changed to match the back light of the instrument cluster and has support for SD card as well as iPhone/Android via usb or bluetooth. I put all my favorite music on a SD card and rarely ever listen to the radio anymore. It also has hands-free phone via bluetooth.

As far as speakers go, I had a Jamo speaker system with two satellite speakers and a huge woofer. The woofer is gone, but I disassembled the sat speakers and put the mid range bass driver in the doors and the tweeters in the dash. To make up for the lack of the woofer, there are two 6x9 JBL speakers in the rear shelf, installed by PO, and they deliver enough bass to make the rearview mirror vibrate in sync with the music.

I got the head unit today, will try and install tomorrow. I have two questions though…

1. Since the head unit is 4x50 and the s70 has 8 speakers is this not going to power some speakers? or do we have an amp somewhere else in the car from the factory?

2. This Blaupunkt head unit is a double din, but I can still tell there will be somewhat of a gap, anyone know of a good way to make it look as factory as possible by closing the gap. Any kits? or any ideas on what to use to make it look gapless?

Look around, Crutchfield might have a kit for the S70 that will work with double din units.
Some models came with the amp from the factory, but not many if they don't have the SC-901. As far as I know, the only car pre-wired that doesn't have the SC-901 is the '96 850 Turbo Platinum Edition. I had to install the factory amp and run the wires in mine. No big deal, very easy to do.

Installed head unit today, looks great, it took quite a bit to install it and make it flush. If you don't mind a little gap its very easy to do. If you want it to sit flush, you need to cut one rail out of the stereo cavity, as well as dremel quite a bit out in order for the stereo to sit further back and be flush with the dash. Took about 2 hours of dremeling and messing with the sleeve to get it flush. This stereo is also not very easy to set up your own equalizer settings, I didn't care for the preset ones. After about an hour of messing with those, I finally got it to sound the way it did with the stock radio, which I think sounded awesome. As far as people being able to hear me on the bluetooth, they say it sounds pretty good, they can tell I'm in a car, but not bad and just as good as their factory bluetooth in their car.

I gotta say though, the sound through the speakers was much fuller with the factory receiver. No matter how much I adjust the equalizer it does not seem as rich as the factory unit. Any thoughts?

Are you running an amplifier? (Sorry if I missed it in a previous post) That could have a lot to do with it, if you aren't. My cousin is running an aftermarket head unit in his Durango, and it sounds horrible compared to the stock HU, which had an amp built in. He has upgraded speakers, too. I think his problem is a ground wire, though.
These aftermarket systems can sound good, but it takes a bit of fine tuning.

Well the head unit has an amplifier built into it, 4x50. Not sure, I think all the speakers are getting plenty of power, just a lot of fine tuning to get it to sound as rich. Still not there, I mean its not bad, its just not like the original.
