Removing fan shroud 850t

Post by rguzz »

No such thing as a silly question but how do you pop the upper fan shroud (houses the relays) off, and up? I've tried searching but still isn't clear to me. I'd like to clean things up under there and access the intercooler hose. Thanks.

There are two Torx screws that need to be removed and two small bolts a few inches below them, on either side. The later will loosen the fan/shroud allowing you to pull it towards the engine a bit. Then you can tilt the right angle UFS towards the engine a bit, then pull it straight up after first removing the relays.

That's the way I do it on my 98 V70.

If you're having trouble with this, you're overthinking it. From this P80 replace radiator topic, which itself may provide more clues for you for the fan/shroud:
I pulled the fan and shroud up and out. I did the first two of four T25 screws (topside, captive), and facing more of that, said "There's GOT to be a better way." I pulled up on the fan and boom it came off the shroud . The bottom two screws are slide-ins . Then the shroud came out easy.

I think I've got it. I do have to wonder why the "cover" wasn't designed to just slide off somehow, screw or not. Maybe because of the way all the relays are attached might be the reason.
