XC90 2WD Conversion Help - Disbaling Roll Stability Control (RSC)

Post by zakmuh »

Hi,

I'm looking into buying a 2003 model XC90 D5. This would be my second car and also a project car. I've read a couple of posts about this AWD issue with early XC90s. So I want to convert into a 2WD. Before I go about doing this conversion, I want to make sure this is doable. The first port of call, I checked with my insurance guys and they are okay with this modification.

With regards to the safety....when I remove the transfer box, I'll end up disbaling the differential electronic module (DEM) as I have to disconnect the Haldex, which then will disable the DSTC; this will not disable the ABS system. However...

1. What could happen to Active Yaw Control (AYC) and Roll Stability Control (RSC)?
2. Where are these two located? Are these two fitted into DEM?

I'd highly appreciate if anyone could help me out on this.

Cheers

What needs to be done:
1. Change car configuration to switch off DEM and switch to STC.
2. Change software in the BCM to STC 2WD.
After that you can remove DEM and Yaw sensor.
Note that dealer won't help you in reprogramming because they are prohibited to make such changes.
If you have questions about Volvo firmware ask me. I may know an answer :)

Thanks mate.

As you've said the dealer won't change the software, I don't think I would be able to find a place?

Thanks for your offer mate, but I dont have a XC90 yet.

So can I conclude this thread saying 2WD conversion is not safe to do, unless the software is installed?

It's doable, in the US at least, because many XC90s were FWD here... parts swap time.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Petrol (what you call in America is Gas) is expensive, so people buy small engined cars. So Volvo should've marketed those FWD ones back then in the UK as well.
