There is a Volvo 320mm upgrade that will work on 850's. You need the carriers and front brakes from the T5 S40 from 2005 to 2011. Was also available on the C70 from 2006 and up. These are an upgrade from the standard 300mm that came on most S40's of that time period. You do need a bracket to make the calipers and carriers work. Then 320mm rotors. The center bore has to be opened a bit as well. There is a company out of Australia the makes a bracket and will sell it to you in pairs or a whole kit. I am currently working on my own bracket. I found the carriers and calipers for $50 bucks a piece online. There is a very good write up on Volvospeed. I was planning the 302 upgrade until I saw this and it doesn't cost any more to do it. The brackets are expensive, but I have access to a CNC mill so they won't cost me much but time getting the dimensions right. Once I get mine sorted out, I might make a run and sell a few sets. Oh...and it will fit under 17" Volans!

Note for this thread - the 302mm upgrade also involves brake hose replacement.

It's possible to move the caliper from the smaller bracket to the bigger one, but Volvo has a separate part, with its own part number, for 302mm brakes. Some engineer in a box in Sweden decided the bigger brakes needed a longer hose, so even if the need for it isn't immediately apparent I'd be inclined to swap the hoses.
