aut.transmission problem 850 GLT 1992

Post by jantt »

Hi outthere

I still have a problem with the aut.transmission in my 850 GLT 1992.

It comes when I take gas of when I stops for red light. The car shutter amd rpm drops.
It`s not all the time. There can go a week between and when it happens it`s only ones or twice and then it stops rest of the trip.

Tried with additiv and new oil (the oil is red and don`t smell)

Read that the speed rpm sensor in top of gearbox controls lockup in converter so changed that, but didn`t help.

A gearbox company here in Denmark says it`s fail in converter lockup and I should change converter.

A company in US say that the oil is getting to hot and I should mount a extra oilcooler.

A mecanic say it could be a solenoid.

Anyone had the problem ?

Is it setting any codes? Chances of needing an extra oil cooler are very, very slim. Denmark is relatively flat, the car is built for Nordics temperatures, and unless you're hauling trailers with way too much weight, it's not going to overheat.

Your Danish gearbox company is the most likely to be right, but you have to see if there are any codes set.

Had code 2-3-2 missing speed signal and that`s why I changed the speed sensor.

The only idea to mount extra cooler is because I have tuned the car 20 % and like to race :)

I highly doubt that your oil temp is a problem. I'd probably go for a temp gauge before an additional cooler - it takes quite a bit to get out of spec on the oil temp.

That`s also what the danish company said. They havn`t seen that oil temperatur could be the problem. Only on tuned american V8 they have seen it.

Then I am back to change the converter or if a hanging soleniod could be the problem.

2-3-2 always shows up because you are reading your code while the car is not moving- this is known by most of us who have owned 850''s so don't let that code steer you in a crazy direction. I would think that the torque converter or solenoids are going bad.

If it is one of the solenoids would it not show faul code on a solenoid ?

Are you sure? Shouldn't it be 122 on B2?

No, 2-3-2 on Transmission (A-1).
232 comes up as Speedometer signal missing
B2 has to do with the cruise control (if his car even has it).

If no codes now, I would just drive and enjoy it and deal with it if it starts shuddering and losing RPM's at a stop again. This could be a number of issues from a clogged fuel filter to wires from your MAF being to close to the relay box or the wires from your throttle position sensor touching an ignition wire- could be something very simple and nothing to do with your transmission at all- at least, let's hope so.
