Volvo 850R - not sure what goes here....

Post by T64me »

I was working on my 96 850R tonight and I noticed this to the left of the airbox. It looks like something is supposed to be plugged in here but there are no loose wires anywhere

Any constructive input would be appreciated!

That's your Turbo Control Valve. There should DEFINITELY be something plugged in there, unless it's been replaced by something else. Where do your turbo control vacuum lines go?

My guess is that there is a MBC or some other hot rodded boost controller somewhere else on the car. Sommerfeldt has the right idea, trace the lines from the turbo.

I was thinking this was the turbo control valve, but I was not sure - thanks for confirming!

I believe there are vacuum lines still connected to this control valve but I could not find any wires that were hanging loose with nothing attached. I'll look again tonight.

This car has been sitting for a long time since I purchased it 1.5 years ago. I'm just starting to drive it and sort through issues. Looking forward to having it fully sorted.

It's always fun to revive something like an 850R - that's a lot of car right there. :) Don't drive it w/o hooking up the TCV, though - that's inviting trouble. There's bound to be a connector somewhere, but they do have a way of camouflaging themselves if they're not in their assigned seats. (coming from someone who once spent an hour looking for a "missing" MAF connector... Jeez... )

 Jesus.

Yep. I keep a spare e-brake in the trunk, too, now. Just to make absolutely sure.

Thanks guys. I had to do some digging, but I did finally find the harness. It was toward the front, under the cold air intake. On to the next project!
