'04 V70 center armrest

I broke the center armrest by leaning over, '04 V70, I bought the box from Volvo (30643189) and I'm now trying to attach the original padded top w/hinge to it. I've got the two roll spring clips out (they hold tension while rising and closing) but the two pivot cups that attach to the new part is where I'm having a problem. By looking at the new part the pivot cups must be tapered, meaning they must come out from the center not push through, has anyone replaced this before?

Well,,, I didn't hear anything so I just cut off the lid with a Dremel tool, small bites until I got past 180 degrees and slipped the lid off the pivot. I really think this is the only way to do this after looking at everything when done.
