1996 850R Automatic Locks After 30 Sec

Hi,

I have had my volvo now for over a year and never noticed this. Basically I unlocked the car with the remote and then went to check something on the other side of the car and it locked. I have never noticed this. If I exit the car, and shut the door, does this engage? I just want to make sure I do not ever leave my keys in the car and it decides to lock.

Just trying to understand the situations in which the doors automatically lock.

I've noticed if I unlock it, and then don't start the car, it'll relock itself.

My s70 does the same, if you don't open a door it will re-lock. Probably a security feature.

Reminds me of volvo 740 I had many years ago. Pulled over on a busy highway (US Route 22) to switch drivers. With car running I got out and wife got out. We both closed doors to walk around the car to switch places. The doors all locked. We had our 1 yr old child in the back seat. We had to break a window to get in. Never again would that happen to me. Lesson learned - forevermore... I leave a window open when switching drivers or I take key.

That is normal. If it's able to be disabled, that I am not aware of. ??
