1996 855 - 3M 1080 Foil Wrap on trim

So, I'm thinking of getting the wagon wrapped in either 3M 1080 foil or Avery, so I bought myself a couple of meters to test it out. Now, I did my hood already, which was a stupid place to start, considering I've never done anything remotely like it, but it went mostly okay. Emphasis on "mostly".

So I may pay someone to redo it when my bank account says it's in better health.

But, I'm planning to use the remains to wrap the ugly, grey trim moldings on the doors - so I pulled the smallest piece off today and tested it. Below's the result - looks pretty damn good, I'd say. The 3M is hard to cold stretch, apparently the Avery foil is better for that, but with a little help from my cheap-o heatgun, this piece went rather well.

Wow that looks good! Also I hope it shouldn't fade as badly, although I know wrap only has a 10 year warranty (I believe) against fading. The original part took 20 years to get there!

Fingers crossed here too. Then again, if I have to do it every 10 years, then that's fine, I guess. Maybe go for a new color every decade.

The hood turned out pretty good as well, but the clearcoat was in worse shape than I though, so it let go in one corner, and one small patch in the middle of the hood, which makes it look like there are air bubbles. The rest went well for a first timer.

The matte black looks good on the blocky shape of these cars, IMO.
