S70 engine swap

Post by Reming870 »

Ok. It died. We did everything to save it

Found a line on an engine for about $500.

Seems easy enough to change.

Anything I should be aware of? Programming, specialty tools?

Are you doing the work or someone else?

It'll cost more than $500.

I'll do it myself if I don't need specialty tools that are too expensive.

$500 in parts to do myself?

$500 is reasonable because there may be stuff you will want to replace while you're in the process, like engine mounts, seals, hoses, water pump and TB components. It will be easier if you already have experience pulling control arms and axles. All in all, it's not a difficult job--just requires methodical and careful work.

I don't recall any Volvo specific tools required. A set of wobble extensions is helpful.

Yes. Same year engine. Was hoping not to spend anything more than $100 in misc parts.

I also posted it for sale as it has a new xemodex and brakes. Body and interior are near perfect. It's a shame to see it go.

Timing belt/waterpump/tensions/etc will run you around $200
Seals are another $50
Good engine mounts will run you $200
All fluids, another $60 or $100 depends on what you use.
Misc vacuum hoses $20
Whatever else you find broken.

There's an accident victim in NH that you might be able to buyback for $300 if you move quickly. See P2 forum

Buying new parts $500 is way too light
