Heated Seat Thermostat Compatibility

Post by dyn blin »

Seeking wisdom from the tribal experience for a 97 850 with a heated front seat.

The "correct" thermostat has a part number of 3521779. It's specified for 95 & newer model years. It's spec'd at 36C

For 94 and earlier, I see a part number 1395937. It's spec'd at 45C.

I haven't noted a difference in fuses between the two. The "older" part is substantially less dear.

I haven't held the two side-by-side. Are there differences in wiring or socket (or other considerations) that would make it unwise to substitute the less expensive and higher heat range, older iteration?

I think the socket is the same if it is the one that plugs into the foam rather than the redesigned version that bolts to the seat frame. The older versions tend to burn up the seat heater pads at a rather alarming rate. The pads are expensive to replace and they are real pain since you need to pull the skin off of the seat.

I tried to buy an element about eight months ago and Volvo didn't list it anymore. Wound up repairing mine. A real pain indeed.

thanks all.

Barring further input, I'll try Tasca for the "older" and see if I can save $20 over the "newer" I'll post back with results.

Thanks for the bandwidth
