There has got to be a better way.
I am in the process of replacing my rotted vacuum lines at the BCS. There is a spring clip on the 'red' line which is not visible. I can feel it and the 2 prongs are at about 3pm and the single prong at 6-7pm. Thank you Volvo engineers!
Now, how do I get the darn thing off!!! I don't have a lot of tools. I am trying a regular set of needle nose pliers, but there is no 'feel' and I cannot get a bite on all 3 prongs. I cannot get both hands in there.
And when I get the spring clip off, I know that the vacuum line will be 'welded' to the nipple.
Do these new lines even need a spring clip? The new ones are from IPD and I test fit the blue one on the intake pipe - tight fit!

I'm not sure what pipes you are referring to. Are you working on a turbo TCV pipework or what? If you can help narrow down where you are trying to work on the pipework I will try to help you. Some pipes are pressure and some are vacuum. With the vacuum ones a clip is not usually needed but a nice to have to prevent the pipe accidently getting knocked off. On a pressure pipe it is there for a reason! A picture of what/where you are working on in the car would be a great help.

Scott, I am in the process of replacing the 3 vacuum lines on the boost control solenoid. Two of those lines go to the turbo, red and yellow. The red line is below eyesight and has a spring clamp on it. I am trying to figure out how to get that dumb spring clamp off so I can get the rotten vacuum line off the brass fitting.
I tried with a regular pair of needle nose pliers, to no avail. I can't get any purchase on all 3 tabs of the spring clamp. Once my right hand is down there with the pliers, I am totally blind.

He's serious, it may entail a bit more work of removing things to fit the tools/ "weapon" in there. I do it a lot, the extra work is worth in in the long run if for what ever reason those lines have to be removed again, all you have to do is clip the zip ties instead of having to do all this extra work every single time.Klausc wrote:Very funny. It's off. A 2 minute job that lasted a total of 3 hours. If the spring clip were centered on the top of the vacuum line (where I put it), real easy. The hard part was using needle nose pliers, they have a flat edge when closed, with other objects in the way, like 1 inch hoses, and unable to see all 3 prongs.
It's break time. The dew point has just passed above 70 and climbing. I will dry out before buttoning everything up and going for a test drive.

Most people have replaced the TCV hoses... and destroying the clips and replacing them either with screw clamps or zip ties is the absolute best way to do it. Replacing the bottom vacuum hose from TCV to turbo that you're talking about took me 10 minutes. Airbox out, intake pipe off, good work light, Dremel and a new hose and clamp ready to go.
