Re: The wife and the Volvo
The girlfriend has a Volkswagen jetta that is all hers. I have 2 other vehicles. A leased 15 Nissan maxima and a 06 Hyundai elantra which I purchased brand new. The maxima is shared, the elantra is a manual which she doesn't bother with, and my S70 is misunderstood by all who know and love me, but accepted as an extension of me being me. The S70 is my favorite car overall. It has a lot of personality and I'm happy with it
Always first off the line, while all the cool people are still staring at their phones.

My girlfriend has a 2010 Mazda 3. She never liked driving my T5R when it was an auto and refuses to learn stick now so its all mine.
I couldn't have said it better myself!PS78 wrote:...my S70 is misunderstood by all who know and love me, but accepted as an extension of me being me. The S70 is my favorite car overall. It has a lot of personality and I'm happy with it

I hear you, no women I've been with have ever been interested in driving a manual. They really don't know what they're missing. Driving a manual is like a perfect balance of man and machine. A manual trans can completely change even a bland car into a fun ride.polskamafia mjl wrote:My girlfriend has a 2010 Mazda 3. Me too! Even my "car enthusiast" friends don't really get why I like my V70 so much.PS78 wrote:my S70 is misunderstood by all who know and love me, but accepted as an extension of me being me. The S70 is my favorite car overall. It has a lot of personality and I'm happy with it
My wife thinks the V70 is somewhat grandfatherly (which perhaps it is... and I'm in my twenties), but she seems to really like the seats. When both of us are going somewhere, she implicitly assumes we are taking the Volvo. I guess she gets it.

Our whole family drives Volvo's and have been for awhile. My new to me S40 is a stick so no one else is comfortable driving it! This means, no seat or mirror re-adjustments at all and I don't have to worry that it will be gone when I get up in the morning (driven by a family member)!!

Single and family isn't very interested in cars, but my "car family" (car club/ friends that are enthusiast) thought I was weird buying a V70 GLT until everyone saw it, rode in it, saw the races, etc. Then they realized that they are pretty nice and decently fast (for what it is.) Luckily (for now) I don't need to worry about a better half wanting to use my cars
I've previously owned many vehicles/ brands, I have a preference of European over American with no doubt. I did like my BMW 530i a lot, but I like my Volvo's better to be fully honest. One of my favorite things of owning a Volvo though is everyone thinks they are a Volvo specialist all of a sudden and start asking questions like "is that the diesel?" or "those are rear wheel drive aren't they?" (owning a 98 V70 and a 94 850) but happy to explain to them the Volvo family to get them hooked on it as well

I don't think I could've agreed me with your situation, at the time of having a significant other she thought my V70 was "an old person car" or I also got/still get "is registered as a hearse or a normal vehicle?!" (it's black exterior/ boxy shape really doesn't help ...) But in the end she loved it and always wanted to drive it.1337 wrote:Me too! I've taught all mine and about 12 other young ladies to drive stick. It's a public service thing. Hasn't cost me any clutches yet, and even if it did the karma bucket is well filled.
