1998 v70r driveline swap into a 2000 v70 xcse?

I have a bad carrier bearing on my 00 v70 I and I have a 98 v70r car I am parting out.
Can I swap the center plate that hold the driveline /exhaust and the driveline from my 98 onto my 2000 ?

The issues you will need to check is that the 98 and 00 have different angle gear and VC flange sizes. You will need to measure the flange diameters of both to confirm. I think the older one was 95mm and the later 93mm. I think theoretically you could swap the 2 flanges on the angle gear and VC and then use the prop-shaft from the 98 in the 00, but again you would need to remove both flanges and ensure they have the same seal diameters. You could look at swapping the whole VC unit out from the 98 as that would fix the rear end.

I think the VC in my 98 is toast

and I know the angle gear was.

Looks like I have a front wheel drive wagon until I figure out how to source a new bearing.

Have you looked at Colorado Driveshaft? I used them and they were good. They may supply the parts, but I think you have to remove the front end bearings to gest the carrier bearing in. They will be able to answer that for you. I have used them and they were excellent.

I have checked them out. I have a 98 propshaft from a car that had a bad angle gear coupler. Im hoping I can make one good prop out of them

At least being on the West coast you have 2 Volvo specialist used parts suppliers. South is vandsautodismantlers in Sacramento, and Chapman Motors on Vancouver Island. Both are good to deal with. CDN$ = $0.75 US!

I think somewhere in my garage I have a VC unit from either a 98 V70XC or a 97 850 AWD (they are the same). It came from a working car and has been stored upright (the correct way). I also have good VC units for a 99/00 V70XC/R, but no good angle gear or prop-shafts (sold the re-built 98 V70XC one last year, sorry).

Ok so i found my caliper. the end caps are the same diameter. but I found the center bearing bolt distance is different. can I pull the exhaust hanger off the 98 and use this prop shaft on my 2000?

I've had a good look on the Volvo parts list I have and cannot for some reason find the support brackets for the center bearing to compare part numbers.

When you say the bolt positions are different, is it for the 4 bolts for the bracket to the vehicle floor or as I suspect the bolts for the center bearing support, or is it both?

Comparison photo would make this a lot easier.
