1) It says to use a 3/4 inch clear vinyl tube. Well at Lowes they had 3/4" outside diameter and 3/4" inside diameter.
Looks like the inside diameter one. Outside is a a good size tube. Am I right?

2) I've read where people have done the gibbons method flush with good results by just doing the 2 quart drain from cooling line then fill 6 times without draining the 3 1/2 quarts first out from the gear box. I can tell my fluid is broken down viscosity-wise. Gets thin/shifts hard when hot. So, besides old fluid, what chances are there that there is anything in the gear box that needs to drain. Gunk, etc?

Thanks,
Jim

Add on for question 2 about adding motor flush and doing similar procedure as if it were oil to get the gunk out, would that help or hinder?

I'd say it helps to drain the sump by unscrewing the bolt. It gets quite some gunk out. My 96 R had weird shifting symptoms when hot when I bought it. I just drained the tranny (no flush) 3 times and it shifts super smooth. I will probably drain 3.2 quarts every year from now on just to be safe.

No ue about the diameter. Be sure to replace the clamp that holds the tranny fluid line in place if you take it off.

I would recommend just draining it by removing the drain plug. Its much simpler and doesn't require anything other than a drain pan and a spanner.

Probably would be safer just doing some drain and fills. Let the ATF detergent additive package do it's thing. That's just me erring on the side of caution though. Maybe someone can say otherwise and recommend a good flush product?
The only thing I tried after doing a bunch of reading up was lubegard, after some drain and fills. The results were good, much smoother operation and its stayed that way, no placebo effect.
