Say no to Rain-X windshield washer fluid ?

Post by oragex »

I used this for the past two years. Recently, my windshield fluid reservoir level sensor stopped working. Google it, and found some information about the silicone contained in the Rain-x

I'm seeing this a little late, but in case it helps... I use the Rainex on our V70 (and Miata), which is applied to the windshield itself with great success, although re-applications are periodically needed. I clean the glass thoroughly, then apply the Rainex, polish it off, and may apply a second coat, buffing it clear. Front windows are a good idea. At highway speeds the rain beads off so well wipers are hardly needed.

Volvo (Pilkinton) uses hydrophobic application on the windshield, it needs no Rain-X when new. Of course, don't do any "sealant" in car wash.

The Amazon link would not work on my smartphone, cannot say for computer users. I use the orange rain-x year round in my S80. Have for years and have never had a issue with the still functioning factory washer system. The spray nozzles have been replaced twice at Volvo due to them popping up after a detailer hitting them with a buffer, not any issue with spray patterns. Also I have found the rain-x stopped the chattering wipers when I started using it. The orange is the antifreeze version. Yes I live in Florida and use more expensive antifreeze washer fluid year round. I like to have peace of mind that I don't have to think about it to save a dollar a gallon. June

When I remember to do it (usually before a long highway trip), I treat the windows with RainEx. Brilliant stuff.

My local car wash sprinkles rain repellent all over the car, it has effect similar to Rain-X. I forgot when I treated my windshields with Rain-X last time. But agree: Rain-X is a cool stuff!

I am not a fan only because that silicon ends up in the lakes and elsewhere. I have used it on long trips where the benefit is needed and I have little control, otherwise I just clean my window normally.

It does work well.

This ceramic coating is one of my favorite products. It lasts far longer than any other detailing product I’ve tried. What’s even cooler than that is how easy it is to apply. Only drawback is you need to use your own spray bottle. Effects on front glass are similar to rain-x, maybe not quite as hydrophobic. Car looks incredibly clean even after driving in rain & then drying.

Less is more with this detailer. I try to do it with the car still wet. Spray while wet, then dry as you normally would.
