2001 V70 T5 into 2002 V70XC engine swap possible

Post by buhao »

First post, but long time lurker. I had my favorite car of all time die on me a while back 2001 V70 T5 (tranny, of course). Now I found a 2002 V70XC with a bad engine. I have done some searching and can't seem to find out if I can do an engine swap without a major hedache. The T5 is complete, so I can swap over anything from that, if it will make it work or make life easier. I have had one mechanic tell me yes and another tell me no, and I know anything CAN be done, my question is weather this is worth attempting.

Thanks

Doable.
As for electronics to get T5 you will need to reprogram the original ECM from 2002 car. In a case it is the turbo one.
That is because 2001 and 2002 model years have different ECUs.
Actually it will work without reprogramming but you wont get full power from it.
If you have questions about Volvo firmware ask me. I may know an answer :)

Awesome. So, if I understand correctly, I can do the swap, without reprogramming, but the engine will perform like the original lower compression engine did, but if I can get a VIDA/DICE unit, or get it to a dealer (nearest is 125 miles away), I can reprogram the ECU to tell it it has the T5 engine and will gain some performance?

I think that is enough for me to pull the trigger on this one. Hopefully will have a pretty nice XC T5 up and running soon. Anyone know of a good forum post or website with a video or pictures of a full engine removal? I would like to do it myself, but I am not sure I can.

Thank you so much for the reply.

dealer wont help you because it loads software according to the VIN so it will just reload original software.
