Good day all, was having boost issues, I could hear the turbo spooling up, sounded terrible, struggling to buildup and maintain boost. Yes, it was a PITA to replace, but I had to go for it. My diagraphm seemed fine, but the spring was suspect. Installed CBV from IPD using the black spring (stock). Just a few words of wisdom, the bottom bolt can only be removed from under the car, 1/4 turn at a time, that coolant hose is in the way, crazy! Also, remove the front drivers wheel, it really helps giving you the extra room to get your arm in the tight spot. Also, replaced a few vacuum hoses with silcon, the one at the bottom of the turbo is a PITA too, but the T5 is back to normal so far! IPD instructions are so weak, Robert DIY video is right on.

Wouldn't it have been easier to just pop out the airbox and intake tube, and do it from the top?

I took out the airbox, but no access to the lower bolt from the top.

Its brutal on the ME7 1999 model. I posted a thread on this earlier. Its even worse when you get it on, and then see the diaphragm sitting on the garage floor and realize you have to do the job again, twice.

Thread with some pix, here

Yes, it was brutal, I can imagine what a dealer or local shop would charge just in labor.

Make sure you get the whole induction system clamps tight when you do this job. You are pushing good pressure into the system with that new CBV - I just popped the lower intercooler hose off on a road trip the other day.

+1

I had the upper IC hose pop off after resetting my waste gate where it should be. I thought I'd torqued it down tight enough after replacing the front bumper side hydraulic motor mount.
