Hello
I'm starting to gather information in order to get my new 2001 V70XC ready for its "motel" duty this coming summer...
As long as I had cars, I have used them as motels on my vacations: removable panels in the windows, drapes, etc.
In this application, it is pretty covenient to be able to open/close the windows, listen to music, and get power from the 12V outlets without having to leave the key in the ignition all the time. I am contemplating installing switches that will let me simulate the "ignition key in pos I" to these devices. Would that be possible?
Since I don't have any schematics, I was wondering if the windows module is awakened by an ignition key line, or is it something more complex like a message from the CAN bus? likewise for the radio?
thanks!

Just to answer my own post, I have done work today towards this goal: I have installed switches in the blank switch spots on the climate control unit (really much more complicated than what I expected: these blanks are made to accomodate electronic switch modules that plug into the climate unit to send specific CAN commands...) and I have found an "always live" line to activate the sound system. I have not yet found the X control line that will allow me to control the windows however.

If you turn off and remove the key, there is a certain period during which the windows can be rolled up.
This is handy for those cases where you park the car, and realize that a window is still open.
So the relay that provides power to the Driver Door Module and Passenger Door Module must have a mode where it remains closed after a general power-down. Wiring a switch to bypass each relay should be straightforward. There is a decent wiring diagram for the 2001/2002 v70 available from many sites.

2001 v70 2.4T: The most expensive $1500 car I ever bought ("Volvo Turbo" - what an oxymoron!) (sold)
2004 v70: Far less fatally-flawed v70 - It served well (sold)
2010 v50: Smaller, slightly sportier wagon. Its got a spoiler, so I upgraded with sway bars!

For music , 12 VDc accessories, wire in a separate cig lighter and USB plug with a fuse direct from the battery or a terminal 30 connection if you know wiring. Fuse is not optional, as close to the battery as feasible. Do NOT rely on the fuse in a fused plug.
For windows..best alive I can offer here is to connect a single pole, double throw switch that connects the 12vdc to either the normal feed ( probably X terminal) or to terminal 30 ( for ignition off)
Warning. You might Fubar the CANBUS signals doing this. It won't cause damage, but I would not be surprised to find the CANBUS needs a reset after toggling, especially if you toggled with ignition on.
