Cool, I like these answers! Since my last post, I've scored a "go ahead" at a 4-way stop (it was very, very clearly her turn) and I even got a wave today from a Volvo! Sounds lame, but I'm pretty simple, so it made my day. Especially since I was on my way to get a battery for my dying car. :

You just might have started a revolution! Since I first read your post I look at other Volvo cars on the road now just to see if I get a wave. June

I used to have a Miata, a car whose drivers really run the demographic gamut. Waves all the time. Pop-up headlight flops every day. It felt like being part of a secret society whose members were always having fun, and everyone else was wasting their time.

I still have fun in my new car, but I have fun by myself. There's no sense of community, even though the other people in Fiesta STs are all, like myself, young men with engineering degrees. There are sometimes waves; there are never smiles. Maybe we're just not a fun group of people.

Oh absolutely. Miatas are nearly a religion. Sister had a " merlot" one, brother in law had a blue one. First instance I'd ever known of people completely removing wheels to "properly" clean the entire thing during a wash and detail lmao!! They're fun little cars but just not for me at almost 6'2" lol..

I'm still chuckling here because of the op stating that some of the forum members are weird, and I was thinking of some of the responses and peoples personalities in general in the forums and I'm hoping I'm not weird or really weird haha.
Always first off the line, while all the cool people are still staring at their phones.

Nah, the forum members probably aren't the weirdest ones... it's more the random drivers I see on the road. :P Besides, I've always been pretty weird myself. Weird is cool! You gotta be a little different to love a Volvo. ;)

Most Volvo people are cool, but there are two different groups of Volvo owners. One group are the enthusiasts and tuners, the other group are people who bought one because it was a running, driving car with a/c. Being as much of a gearhead as I am, I don't understand the latter! Unfortunately, I think that's the majority of Volvo owners around here. I mean, there was a saffron V70R in the Charlotte Pull a Part... these people obviously don't care!
There are a couple of shops around here where you'll find the local enthusiasts, though. There's one down the road from me that has a sweet 244 out front.

I here you brother. Pretty much every S70 I encounter at the salvage yard is there because of really elementary maintenance items like the timing belt path or a vomiting heater core left to stain the entire floor and grenade the motor. Prospective buyers should read up and have a good grasp of what they're getting into before taking the plunge with the older gen cars anyway.

Getting back to the wave. You can always pick up stickers, plates, etc to let other enthusiasts know you're there and stand apart from the transportation crowd.

Love volvo stickers
