it seemed like coolant as opposed to the fuel. But, I am still hopeful. I was quite surprised at the shape of the car one of the reasons I pulled the trigger on it. Being a 98 glt the parts will fit my 98 v70 glt.
Is there a good way to check the fluid type? Maybe a syphone? Should I drain the oil and see if there is coolant mixed in with that?
If it is a blown head gasket is it worth going through the engine fix? I had a burnt valve in the v70 and put time and money into that of course now I have other things to do on it. Mostly suspension...I digress....sorry.

No. I stopped when I saw the fluid. That was the first time I saw fluid down in the holes.

These cars respond well to top end work. The bottom ends never wear out for most of us.

If memory serves me right, a failed cam positioning sensor will leave you with a no start condition.

I haven't dealt with a blown hg before so the symptoms and mostly signs are new for me.

I think you may be getting ahead of yourself in assuming a head gasket. If the PO can be believed and the car just cut out, and the timing belt isn't broken and all the timing marks line up, turn the engine over by hand and check everything internally is moving without obstruction.

The moisture could be condensation from the turbo, a flooded SAS pump from a failed SAS valve drawing moisture in or who knows....!

I'd agree if everything is turning over ok, then do the compression checks first.

If I may suggest, swap the fuel pump relay for a known good one, and see if that does anything for you or short out the pins on the existing one. Have someone switch on the ignition while you are at the back of the car with the filler cap removed, listen closely if you can hear the pump run at all. If not you can also just touch the top of the pump and feel for vibrations when ignition is turned on.

These will eliminate some of the basics. Trying to get the car running is the best way to diagnose a failed HG.

If you have or can borrow a code reader see if the car has thrown any helpful codes.

Neil.

Thanks for putting me back on track. I'll slow it down and go back to the basics of the no spark no start.
I will start over.

So here's where I'm at. Put new plug in it. Filled the coolant and had the kid in the pictures crank it. Had him go gas to floor and keep cranking and after a minuteish, it started.
We let run for about 3-4 minutes, see video and pics. While it was running I connected my scanner and it has multiple misfires. Again the plug wires are toasted. I will compression check each cylinder tomorrow.
There was a boat load of fluid leaking from just in from of the rear axle area and after the car was shut off I checked the resivour and it was empty.
What are your thoughts?
