Hello all,

New to the forum and Volvos completely. I made an impulse buy and picked a 1997 850R. I always liked the looks of these when I first got my license back in the mid 1990s-it was one of those "I'll own that someday"-an extensive list though.. Fast forward and here I am picking up a used one. Two owner, 149k mile with the timing belt done in the 130s, runs really great. It needs a few cosmetic items in the interior and it has a few dings here an there, but overall I am pleased. It feels like a bunch of car for $2k. This site and some of the others really seems like I have lots of guidance available if needed. I probably paid too much, but I never see Rs for sale around here.

Looks like a really nice car from my seat. $2k is cheap for one of these with only 149k on it. Like the wheels too.

Only comment I'd make so far is check the mounts for the rear bumper as it looks like it is sagging. The mount plates rust out at the rear, or it may just need re-aligning.

Looks good! Not bad at all for the price if it's as nice as it looks.
They really are great cars, I'd love an 850R.

Can't really tell all from one picture, but that looks like a clean R. Nice find. Welcome to the world of Volvos 8)

Good call on the bumper sag-I'm already learning and see that there is a write up on it on here too! Awesome site.

The car has a slight pull to the right while driving. They just put two new struts in the front and I guess they did;t bother with an alignment. I wonder if they got to the point where they were tired of spending money.

The interior needs some work.
The black leather has cracking but I don't see any rips.
The sunroof sun shield is missing the fabric altogether.
The grab handles are faded (tan). Gear shift is worn too.
Passenger sun visor doesn't stay completely up
The driver's power window likes to go down, but not up. In fact, it seems like I need to press UP immediately after going DOWN.

Lots of fun driveway projects.

But the AC works for hot Florida weather!

I was embarrassed the firs time trying to get gas...all doors unlocked??

Great find at only 2k! Where in FL are you located?
