2000 s70 problems
i bought my car about 2 months ago. 129000 miles good condition.. here lately, while driving the odom and speedo will go dead and the ABS and a couple other lights will come on. but the car stills drive fine. then after a min or two things will go back to normal. it been doing this for a few days now.. well today it did the same thing and the orange transmission arrow started to flash. and when everything went back to normal, the transmission light kept flashing! when i stopped at the next light and tried to accelerate it acted like it didnt want to move.. after a few lights it was fine, but the light keeps flashing. i disconnected the battery for about a hour, hooked it back up,tranny is shifting fine and the light keeps flashing.. i have a 4 speed auto tranny (1 2 3 D N R P). i changed the fluid about a month ago with mercon dexron 3.. . can i still drive it?. please help

Everything you post tells me that the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is going out but the rest of the crew will jump in and tell you that you have a bad PNP switch.
Are your reverse lights illuminating when you put the car in reverse?
I've got a stick thus I have no Volvo automatic transmission experience.
I'll defer to the auto guys.

A couple of things seem to be going on with your car. In regards to the odometer/speedometer quiting when the ABS light goes on- this is a classic symptom of your ABS control module going out. They all do this eventually and at your miles, it's about time it happened. Look up this guy here on this site: Victor Rocha. He rebuilds the ABS module for less than $150. I had mine done for the S70 last year. When it is working the speedo/odo will work fine. Normally there is however no problem with driving the car when either of these 2 don't work....just that you don't know your actual speed or distance traveled. Usually the ABS issue will come and go with the light staying on longer and longer until it finally stays on and won't go off...this is when the unit has become totally toast.
Now for the other issue....could be pure coincidence that this happened along with the ABS issue, but the flashing light and gear not engaging is not a symptom of bad transmission fluid but rather a bad PNP switch (park-nuetral-position) switch which tells your transmission what gear it's actually in. These can be switched out without too much trouble and there is a good write-up on how to do it in the repair database section. A new PNP switch can be purchased from www.fcpgroton.com at a savings.
It is possible (though unlikely) that the ABS issue is really the real issue and the PNP is secondary to the ABS. Anyway, get your ABS problem taken care of and see what she does after that.
Also, there is a trick for the PNP switch. With key in position II, and foot on the brake, push the auto gear shift from P all the way to L gear and back again very quickly about 20 times. Sometimes this is enough to clean the contacts on the PNP switch and will allow you trouble free driving for awhile until it truly does go south.
Good luck and let us know how things shape up.

Aw, c'mon, www.modulemaster.com
$115 for an ABS module rebuild
I've posted this before, cheaper and faster turnaround than Victor

Victor or the guy that JRL recommended are both good with proven track records.

how do i reset the check engine light?
Before you reset it (which Autozone or any "chain Auto Parts store" will do for free) Make sure they read your codes and check for possible faults. You can reset to see if problem(s) were fixed.

I'm telling you on a 2000 it's the ABS.turbo4door wrote:how do i reset the check engine light?
I have an XC right now that does/did the exact same thing.
When the ABS light came on, I had no ABS, the CEL came on and the odometer didn't work
When the light was off, ALL lights were off and everything worked,
It was the ABS module and all is well now after its repair
