Squeaking noise during cold idle
Re: Squeaking noise during cold idle
I used a breaker bar as a stethoscope and I checked the power steering pump and alternator. Both are fine. Upon closer inspection it seems that the noise is coming from under the turbo heat shield closer to the drivers side. I will remove the serpentine belt and check tomorrow and I will try to post audio soon.

Hi again guys. I finally got around to taking the serpentine belt off and the noise persists with the belt removed. Additionally, I have taken a video of the noise with the serpentine belt removed. The noise starts around the 6 second mark.

Im going to call that an intermittent rattle more than a squeak. It does not sound good. If thats in the TB system, definitely park it until you sort that out.
It could be muffler noise - inspect that system for loose hangers and rattle it when it is cold from underneath.

I will say that it goes away fairly quickly and it's been doing this for the better part of 15,000 miles. For example yesterday I started the car which had been sitting overnight and used my breaker bar as a stethoscope to try to isolate the noise. Then I shut the car off and went inside to grab my phone to take a video for you guys. I restarted the car and it was gone. 2 or 3 minutes is all it takes for it to go away

Might sound like the timing belt is rubbing the top plastic cover, look see anything pushing sidewise on the side cover, such as the power steering hose. Push gently the top tb cover towards the drivers side see if the noise goes away.

I took the timing cover off. There are no rub marks.oragex wrote:Might sound like the timing belt is rubbing the top plastic cover, look see anything pushing sidewise on the side cover, such as the power steering hose. Well... to quote Adam Savage... "There's your problem".
Fingers crossed that getting a couple of bolts on will be the fix.

Can I claim the Viking horns for this diagnosis? It could be muffler noise - inspect that system for loose hangers and rattle it when it is cold from underneath.
