Weird Bulb "Conversion" by previous 2004 v70 owner

Post by packetfire »

An interesting "previous owner" kludge... I wanted to upgrade the headlight bulbs in my 2004 v70 to 9011 (H11) and H9 bulbs, but found that the prior owner had cut off the stock connectors, and removed the quarter-turn mountings on the low beams, replacing them with H7 style bulb connectors (twin push-on lugs) and a kludgey-looking pot metal mounting surface, with a spring that almost, but not quite works to hold the bulb in place

I can replace the connectors, but I cannot find the quarter-turn bulb mountings as stand-alone parts to purchase.

Anyone have broken headlights from which I scan scavenge the "back end" quarter-turn bulb mounting surface? I don't even know what to call it.
1982 240DL: Drove it 32 years and 1.5 million miles (sold, even still had mint leather!)
2001 v70 2.4T: The most expensive $1500 car I ever bought ("Volvo Turbo" - what an oxymoron!) (sold)
2004 v70: Far less fatally-flawed v70 - It served well (sold)
2010 v50: Smaller, slightly sportier wagon. Its got a spoiler, so I upgraded with sway bars!

Sounds like the previous owner might have run HID's for the headlights and when he got ready to sell it went back to what he figured was close enough to stock. I'd say that you might have better luck on eBay or a junk yard. V70, XC70's and even some S80's might have the same connector as long as they weren't running Zenons. Good luck!!
