Hi All,
I've spent half the day searching with no semi-conclusive result. I don't think it's the "stop neutral transmission" issue.
2002 Volvo S60 T5, 155k miles
Last night I went to move the car, I put it in drive and when I gave it some gas it didn't move. After gently accelerating for 5-6 seconds it did move forward.
This is new behavior. The car is in decent shape but not worth a new transmission. Clutch? Maybe.
Any input or pointers to resources or tips for diagnosing will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

Fluid level check is first. What is the transmission service history?
ATF fluid should be being serviced every 2 years or so on a Volvo of age/miles

Service history? None. :'( Might I be too late?
I stopped taking it to the dealership a while ago because they were/are so crooked. I have done all mechanical work but neglected changing the transmission fluid. You know, modern transmissions, low maintenance, ... but then you hear of people trying to do the right thing with their transmission changing fluid, filters and such and that causes problems.
Any fluid or other recommendations?
Thank you for your assistance.

You don't want to do 'power flushes' or major trauma to a well-functioning transmission. But, no ATF last forever, so we recommend here that you 'swap out' about 3 liters/quarts each year (perhaps two years if you don't drive a lot) by " drain/fill" - draining out 3 liters and replacing in kind with the correct fluid.
You might just be down on ATF, so don't fret. These transmissions are tough and respond well to care.

as above, if automatic put it on a level in P engine idling, on cold engine dipstick tip must be wet. or let the engine warm up in P so the transmission fluid expands a little then try a D. that said, the fluid doesn't disappear, might be leaking hopefully not at the radiator
