This rust free 1979 Volvo 242 GT (chassis VC24245M1149741) had one owner until 2012, whereupon it was sold to a collector in New York and stored without being driven for a few more years; I purchased it in 2013, and recently paid for a full engine rebuild that was completed in March 2016 (retains original red block). The 4-speed manual transmission is original and the electronic overdrive works perfectly. The car also benefits from several suspension (complete) and interior upgrades, and has been well-cared for over the course of its life. I am hoping for $10,000 but am open to other serious offers so don't be afraid to throw one out. The car has a clean Florida title and I have an independent inspection as well as a letter from the original owner, available through email. Finally I have extensive documentation back to 1989, the original purchase order on June 7th 1979 for $10,115, and the original owners manual and accessories catalog.

The paint is new as of 2009 and the original GT wheels (included in the sale) were refinished in 1997. The colors are well executed with a nice glossy finish complete with a correct GT striping kit (stripes were poorly done on the trunk after paint). There is a small dent to the driver’s fender top edge, and a few stone chips are seen around the wheel arches-otherwise the car presents quite nicely. Rubber window surrounds and bumper ends still look good, and glass shows just as well (could use new tint, but there are no bubbles or defects)

The interior is particularly impressive, as most GT’s and their model-specific cabin features are tired and far worse for wear. Front seats have been rebuilt internally and look great as does the rear seat (original). The headliner is tight and everything else is in good shape. The dash is free of cracks, all switch-gear is present, and carpeting is clean. All accessories are in working order, including the sunroof, which has a tight seal when closed.
The 2.1 liter four cylinder pushes a factory-rated 110 HP through a 4-speed with overdrive, and benefits from some replacement including a new timing belt, alternator, and distributor. A new fuel tank sending unit was also installed–a nice thing to have as these are both known 240 weak points. Mileage is just over 164k, with less than 500 of those accumulating since the rebuild.

Underneath, Bilstein shocks can be found at the corners along with sport springs, while an adjustable Panhard bar and poly bushings front and rear help to keep the suspension planted. The original turbine GT wheels with an extra set of tires will also be included in the sale.
