960 coolant temp sensor

Post by cully »

Could you please advise on the whereabouts the coolant temp sensor is on the engine block that sends temp info to the dash gauge.
The car is a 960 3ltr 96 model 210k .
My confusion comes from reading that this car has two or three coolant sensors.
I have recently changed the coolant sensor under the thermostat housing that supplies info to the ECU
I also have a engine oil leak that appears to be coming from below and towards the front of the intake manifold ( there is a canister that seems to be part of the crankcase ventilation system mounted on the block (noticed this last time I had the manifold out) and I suspect that is where the oil is coming from. What is this canister?
The car is a LPG conversion which makes it a bit more difficult to get the manifold out.
Thanks for any input

Starting with 96 there is one. It is on the bak of the cylinder head. 95 and earlier had two with one on thermostat housing going to instrument cluster and the one on back of head going to engine control module. In 96 the engine management system changed from Bosch Motronic 1.8 to the more capable Bosch Motronic 4.4. This system provides a digital signal to instrument cluster for the temp value.

The crankcase breather box is just behind aircon compressor and has connections to the block that often leak with age. You probably will have to deal with intake removal to service it.
