I had to get something out of the car (04 XC 90 )today and when I opened the door the cabin fan was running on high. (The setting it was on when it turned off when I exited it 20 min before. I put the key in my pocket.) I had to turn the key to #2 position to turn the fan off with the dial...?
Why was my fan running?
I did tow a trailer today for the first time with this new to me car. It worked fine and there were no light problems with the car or the trailer.
I checked that the key was in the locked position when I inserted the key to turn things off. It was. I even turned the key oto #2 on and back to off and the fan kept going...
Ideas???
Thanks in advance. Marty
Cabin fan turned on by it's self. No key!

The P2 cars are known for running the climate fan after turnoff to keep the evaporator dry, saving it from corrosion. I didn't think it ran on high , though. Next time see if it turns itself off after 10-15 minutes

Thanks! I've been trying to remember to turn the fan knob to off each time I shut the car off. Just in case... I was thinking it was a computer malfunction.
I'll watch and time it next time I catch it doing that. In the mean time I'll just lave the knob alone.

Hello,
Perhaps the algorithm for turning the cabin fan on is not so different on 2004 XC90. Mine is 2009 and I did notice that during very hot periods fan will keep running for a while. Normally if I drive short distance (15 - 20 min) cabin fan will always keep going for at least 30 minutes after I am gone to keep it dry and free of foul-smell

The feature is called after blow and is standard programing on P2s. Ours seems to run on high speed. We often find it on on our 2002 XC70. It can be turned off at the dealer to save the battery from extra usage.
