2006 XC90 noisey.

I have owed this vehicle for almost a year now and am very pleased so far. Although the car has covered some 106.000 mile the engine runs like a sewing machine out on the road. But when idling the engine is very noisey to the extent that a neighbour commented the other day it sounded like a 'tractor'.

Has anyone out there any ideas or is this a 'trait' of the xc90. Yhe exhaust is fine as far as i am aware.

No, it should not sound like a tractor. There is something amiss. My vehicle just crested 121K and I am still amazed at how nicely it drives and how quiet it is. Can you describe this better? Perhaps record a clip and post it?

Thanks for your reply.....Just a correction the car has covered 163.000 miles not 106.000,not that it would make a difference. It is in for a service in a months time so may be able to throw some light on it.

We need more info. 2006 XC90 can have many different engines. Petrol or diesel? If petrol then is it the 5, 6, or 8 cylinder engine?

It's a diesel,and to go off on a tangent Volvo managed in and around 2006 to produce an engine giving out the maximum emissions to 'gift' me with an annual road tax bill of £490.

Ouch. Fuel over here is so expensive though...almost 30p per liter.

Our road Taxes are waived if you install a gun rack.

Sorry I can't help with your noisy diesel idle, we don't get diesels here...
