coolant bleed screw size?

My niece is out of town and somehow managed to break the head off of the coolant bleed screw in the lower radiator hose. I need to know what size and what threads that thing is so I can tell her what to buy. Thanks in advance. If I was with her I would fix it in a minute...

The problem is I've looked for such a screw for you on the sites I typically use to buy parts and it doesn't come up.
Do you have a photo? Is this on the actual hose or the bottom of the radiator?

I can't think of a bleed screw on my '01 S40 either. Especially on a lower hose.

It seems reasonable that a bleeder would be at a high point.

It is the red plastic screw in the hose to the middle right of the engine bay. It is to bleed air out of the cooling system. Apparently they don't sell the screw as a separate part only with the entire hose. Some aftermarket parts replace the plastic with a brass screw. It is in the lower radiator hose at the high point as it comes up over the transmission and around to the back of the engine. I had already tried to find out through research what size it was and could not find anything either, thus my reason for posting the question. I can't take a picture of it since she is in a different city, but if we were in the same city I would have already fixed it and wouldn't need to. Thanks anyway.

Now I remember. It's that little red cap attached to the hose in the center of the photo.

Still can't help with the size as I've never had reason to remove mine. But maybe the photo will help somehow.
I'm curious why it was removed or broken? I've never had a problem with air in my cooling system. Maybe I'm lucky?

I would tell your niece to go to a Lowes or Home Depot and then to the automotive fastener section...get some help and I'll bet there is a screw like this- either plastic or metal...if metal I'd recommend one that is brass or one that won't react to the coolant.

Either way- it's not a huge sum of money even if this is wrong.

What will help though if for you to post back with whatever it was that worked!! This is the kind of info that will help other Volvo owners which is what this site is all about!

They all seem to be the same size- fit mutiple cars...I think that something like this isn't going to be a different size from car to car... Hope you can find one of these that works for you- seems the ratings on Amazon are good so I'd just stick with the plastic ones and save some $.
