Best DIY scantool software for 03 S80?

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Best DIY scantool software for 03 S80?

Post by Vigo »

Hey y'all. I feel like i've been here before in years past but since i had to register just now I guess i've never posted before. Although i've only owned one and currently own none, i'd consider myself a latent Volvo enthusiast. I used to have a very nice 77 242 and vaguely plan to own more Volvos in the future.

The reason i'm posting now is because I'm finally having to go outside my box a little working on my mom's 03 S80. I've been able to maintain it over past 7 yrs and ~115k (now at 213k) with no outside help, including 2 timing belts, valve cover reseal, pcv system, engine mounts, control arm bushings, struts/strut mounts, MAF issues, seatbelt pretensioner failures, power window regulator problems, etc etc. Through all that i've still got a pretty positive impression of the car.

Right now i'm dealing with some fuel trim codes (for maxed out both rich and lean on both banks) and trying to get some good scan tool data stream to diagnose from. Unfortunately everything i have access to as far as scan tools won't seem to read upstream o2 sensors (though they all see the downstreams!) and i am too lazy to tap for voltage with a multimeter. This has led me to come here and ask what are the best options for DIY scan tool software that will let me access as much as possible on this vehicle?

Of course the cheaper the better, but buying an obd2 cable/dongle is no problem. Only caveat is that my only laptops right now run win 8.1 and i have an Iphone but no Android devices.

All help appreciated!

And here's a pic of my old 242.

Manay member in this forum have 906 Volvo scanner.
I'm afraid our i906 Volvo scanner doesn't have VIDA/DICE capability.
It's a DIY code reader mainly for reading and clearing fault codes and reading datastream.
I came across this scanner package it's a 2014D Volvo vida dice.. It looks legit but finding a computer that has windows 7 is a task of it's own.. Im wondering if it's still a better deal and what can it really do

DICE+VIDA onkine are all just pirated discs of the program and a copy of the machine.
The real deal is expensive, get a good retailer the machines arent the worry (usually) its the program for the computer that you may need to put in a request for a new disc sometimes.

It's all a gamble though Volvo made legit DICE+VIDA so expensive that no one but a shop could justify to buy one.

The i906 scanner also doesn't work on all Volvo S80, I requested a price on their site and they replied "The 1999 Volvo S80 is not supported" and that "We still have to write the programming for the older Volvo S80's"
