oil change question on 08 xc90

Post by ic1334 »

im changing the oil on 3.2 08 xc90.
My question is when i took off the filter oil spilled out. so i waited and the center tube oil went away but the outer housing is still full. i drained the oil first, but the engine was still warm after running some.
Is this normal ,if not what should i do
Thanks

after using multiple rags i got the oil out. i found a round rubber that looks like it belongs under a spring type thing that the filter sets on. it has a tit on top that looks to belong in the hole on the spring. could this be a problem or can i just slide it back into place and it be ok?

sounds like the check valve is messed up. That may require replacing of the housing. I am not sure on that. I do know that this is not normal.

your right, took it to volvo today. the rubber seal isnt staying on the filter spring so when i remove the filter the rubber stays down not allowing it to drain. you are also correct it does need the whole housing replaced.
