Oil Filter brand - Mann still #1?

Have the other oil filters come up to snuff with the stock Mann oil filter? I remember reading about loose fits of others, too short, etc. Running Pennzoil Platinum 5w30. 2nd oil change with this oil stock coming up quick. Last 3 changes since Sept have been with Mann's in the yellow & green box.

I think Mahles are ok and used by many here, too. It probably makes little difference if you are changing oil regularly.

Stock oil filter is a Mahle for your application. Mann is stock for the canister style

I just know the box. Mahle, Mann... starts with an M. Green cheap looking box. I remember hearing issue of other filters not having the correct filtering surface area, causing knocks from little flow, not fitting onto boss on engine tight, incorrect dimensions, etc etc.

There is so much MUIS (made up internet s***) on oil, filters, oil change intervals it is mind boggling. There are so many experts, that information gets lost as it runs around trying to find the experts.

Question re Hengst oil filter, which I use all the time in my BMWs.

- In the Euro world (MB, BMW, Volvo, Porsche etc etc)...for air and oil filters, the main 3 mfgs are Mann, Mahle and Hengst.

- Per FCP Euro website:
* Mann HU819X (made in Germany ~ $6.60)
* Mahle OX149DECO (made in Austria ~ $9.50)...this is what I have been using for 10 years.
* Hengst E15HD58 (made in Germany ~ $10.20).

The local Napa carries Hengst oil filter for $11.50.

The issue is not saving a few bucks (FCP shipping cost if total $ not met, time waiting for part to come etc). The issue is: sometimes I have a free weekend and just want to get oil change done to get it out of the way. I happen to be out of Mahle
oil filters at the moment.

So, has anyone here used Hengst oil filter before? Any issues?

Ive used them on VW and BMW engines with no issues.

I see Youtube guys using Hengst on Mercedes and BMW's in Europe. These are specialist repairs shops for those brands. I would have no issue using them. I buy 6 every year when my US-Canada delivery service is running over the winter from IPD or FCP when they have their winter sales. Same with other 'service' items I like to keep on hand. Free shipping in the US to my pick-up point and then Canada from there.

All our local suppliers are typically way more expensive.

Nice thing about a cartridge filter vs spin-on is you can’t hide the construction quality.

Mahle, Mann, Hengst are all fine. In a pinch I think I’ve used Napa and Purolator (maybe) and all looked fine. I’d probably steer clear of Amazon no-names and Fram.

I finally picked up the Hengst oil filter from local Napa just for fun.
Found a Mahle lying around for photo op.

- Mahle is made in Austria.
- Hengst is made in Germany.
- BOTH are excellent, high-quality products.
- On side views, it appears that the Hengt is a bit shorter but it is not true. By the time you add the "felt" ring
at both end caps, the heights of the Hengst and Mahle oil filters are the same.
- Notice every time you install the Mahle, you have to push the oil filter cap in a bit? This is bc the Mahle
oil filter "felt" I.D. is smaller where it meets the engine oil filter housing tube.

Anyway, both Hengst and Mahle are great oil filters.
Mann is good too.

I have not used Mann oil filter in the P2 cars yet (I used Mann oil filters a lot in my 1998 V70 yrs ago). Anyway, a photo
of Mann oil filter for P2 cars (from IPD website) just for the sake of completeness...
