Hi,
You mean the brake lights or the tall lights? By tail lights i mean the ones that come on with the headlights and stay on as long as the headlights are on and never blink or do anything else.
The brake lights come on with the brake pedal.
The blinker lights come on with the blinker 'arm' control.
The tail lights come on with the headlights and probably as the rear parking lights too.

I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.
