I do not know what this is so that my husband can replace it

Post by lisahooks »

I believe that the attached is a tie rod? I was driving home last night and my car started vibrating I pulled over prayed for help as my husband is out of town. one minute later a couple pull up and said they saw my tire wobbling and about to fall off on the passenger rear. He jacks it up and we notice that the attached is snapped in half. we get it up to their shop where he repairs motorcycles and the neighbor welds. You can see it was welded for me and I was sent on my way home and the car handled just fine. I know that a welded piece of metal holding my tire needs to be replaced. Can someone please direct me so that I may purchase one and my husband can replace it when he gets home today?

Give the whole rear suspension a good look-over before starting. If that link BROKE, it was already damaged. Have you (family) off-roaded your XC, or had an unexpected event that would have damaged that arm, like running over something on the road, going over a curb badly? Just make sure the rest of it is good so you only fix it one more time. That's a nice temporary repair though.
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)
