2001 S80 2.4 Running Very Rough (ETM??)

Post by djh82uk »

Hi All,

I have a 2001 S80 (2.4 170BHP) that has started running very rough, sounds like it is not firing on all cylinders, MIL light is on. I have had an error for a long time with the VVT Solenoid, so im ignoring that for now. It now has an error in reference to the Throttle Position sensor.

So i plugged in my Vida and got the attathced screenshot. Am I right in thinking that this is most likely going to be the ETM?

I was thinking of getting one of these to fit?

Any Thoughts?

Ok, is it worth seeing if I have the 2006 update and trying to run the ETM test to confirm?

Has anyone done the contactless replacement? Im presuming you need to solder something, and cut the spindle that used to extend into the old sensor?

Thanks

Hi Djh82uk,
I have same problem...One week ago i was tried to repair the ETM with Sacer TPS.
Alhamdulillah, it's works.
You can see the tutorial and discusing about the Sacer's installment on : https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... 4&start=10

I don't think a Sacer will repair that particular ETM because there is a failure of both sensors at the same time (highly unlikely) and points to a faulty board.

You have VIDA so go to Communication-Network tab then highlight the ETM icon. It will report the 2 x software part numbers that your ETM has installed. Show me a screenshot and I'll tell you if it's updated or just do the ETM test. In the ETM sweep test the actual software numbers aren't revealed.

When replacing with a used ETM matching these 2 software part numbers will ensure the engine rums properly.

Thats a good point and makes sense, does that mean I will likely need to buy a used ETM from ebay etc and update it with the Vida?

Not sure how much hassle I want with this car (it's surplus to requirements and just want to sell it now)

Thanks

You can't update it with unlicensed software and a license sets you back mega trouble and complication. For a one-off software match just fit the used ETM and drive it to a dealer and ask for a sw reload for the ETM. This is assuming your replacment unit's sw numbers don't match, of course.

Dealers won't be involved in most cases with fitment of used components as it opens up a can of worms when payment is due and things didn't work out.
