One last thing... Can someone tell me why this bolt is going in crooked? (The other side doesn't go in crooked...) I've tried screwing this down by jacking the subframe up and down and up and down and up and down, and can't really make it line up any better than this. As you can imagine, when you torque it down, it compresses one side really tightly...

I'm thinking maybe some stuff is out of alignment (small, fender bender some time back?) and it'll mean the bushing will wear out faster, but nothing to worry about. Please say that's the case...

Hey tryingbe, for real? I thought we were always "supposed' to use new bolts... I know reusing them is generally accepted practice, but keeping the old ones vs the newer shorter ones? I wish I would have found that information beforehand...

You went from one extreme (cheap parts) to another extreme (replacing everything with Volvo OEM).

I had no problem using my stock bolts and torque to them to specs.

....Just so you all know: Subframe bushing bolt (Genuine Volvo 985111) is significantly shorter than the original (18 y/o) one! Unless this is a crazy example of stretch...
Wow...something's amiss. Any idea why this is?

(Especially considering bushings are all about their mm...) Just to reiterate: I hate Proparts, here's some proof as to why you shouldn't buy their subframe bushings.
So XC90 bushing is the way to go, eh? And it fits...interesting that. The black rubber "top" sure is higher than the PP unit to the right. Might explain why yours didn't look right post-installation in your earlier post.

Good to see you're back in the saddle with it, despite the pain & frustration. Looking fwd to hearing what worked and didn't. How it rides before vs after, etc. Might be looking at this repair myself....but not yet.

Thanks for the support, sleddriver. The XC90s look and feel great. And they look good all around. I think I'll get good use out of them. Frustration, you say?

I'm facing another dilemma now: this damn P0264... After I get that squared away and get some miles in. I'll let you know how the bushing feel. All I'm missing now are the delta end links. Which don't look too bad. But looks can be deceiving. When I went to remove one of my rear subframe bushings, the metal sleeve just fell out. And when I had inspected that bushing before, it looked great. Better than a new Proparts even! No doubt I was getting some noise from there...

I'm not touching delta links till next Spring. If she makes it that far...

To clarify, you've now replaced all four front SFB'ngs? Take a minute and tell us how it went. You deserve a break!

Re: P0264. Sorry...don't know what that is.

I'm currently investigating the rear trailing arm bushings and outer trailing arm links as they're now 19yrs old. Car is very steady on hwy, no wandering, floating feeling. However when I do step on the brake it will want to gently pull to one side. Didn't realize this was a symptom of the rear trailing arm rubber getting soft.

Hello guys,

I am glad you guys put this post here because I am getting ready to replace the bushings as well because I need to replace the subframe, therefore I thought it would be a good idea to replace the bushing since the subframe is going be a used one. At the same time I thought I would insert those blue inserts as well.

What brand bushings would you guys recommend for a 07 S60R? and would you also recommend putting those blue inserts??

Hey neworleans, I think you should totally replace the bushings if you have the subframe out. You can probably do all four in half an hour.

I went with the XC90 ones. I think they should fit your car.

I wouldn't go with the inserts. Not the Proparts ones anyway. They wouldn't go into my new bushings or my old bushings... I had figured that I could save a buck by getting Proparts bushings and Proparts Inserts (for half the price of the OEMs), talk about throwing all that time I spent doing this job and redoing it down the drain! If you have an R and want a more sporty feel, I think I'd go with these... http://www.kaplhenke.com/products/awd-f ... e-bushings Double-check that they fit though.

Thanks for your input. I looked at the Delrin bushings, they are nice, pricey but there is a huge downside for me which creates vibration at idle. I had the same issue when I changed my upper engine mount with one those IPD's blue engine mounts that you just replace the bushing inside, then I got rid of it because it was annoying.

I also looked at the other options like oem, meyle and pro parts. At FCP's website the Pro part bushings have good reviews and good price. 1/4th of OEM price but i am still not sure if I should go with the OEM or Pro Part because this is something you get to change once.

I noticed that the four bushings are not the same, three of them are the same and the the front left one is different. The hole inside on the different one looks like an elips. When I noticed this I looked at the Delrin bushings again, noticed that all four bushings are the same and I am almost 100% sure that this is causing the viabration. If they had the hole as an elipse on that one, the viabration problem wouldn't be there. In other words having a this type of hole on one of them provides the frame to play little bit. I know this because I design my structure's supports the same way when I need them.

So long story short, I won't be going for Delrin and am between the OEM or the Pro Parts. I am not considering the inserts at all since I will be putting a brand new one.
