Parts availability?

Post by mouseskowitz »

So, a week and a half ago my wife totaled out our 2002 v70 by hitting a curb and taking out the radiator, inter-cooler, and condenser. It seems that these are not the easiest parts to find. The shop was having problems finding a parts store that could get them and I heard that Volvo stopped making stuff so dealers are limited to what's on the shelf. I ended up getting everything from Erie Vo-Vo for a good price, but they'll run out of used parts at some point as well.
Has anyone started seeing any major problems getting parts to keep Volvos of this era on the road? I love my v70 and we're fixing it and also thinking of getting a 2004 v70, but if I won't be able to keep them on the road I'm going to have to start looking for something else that meets my needs.

I have a 99 V70 T5, and never had any problems finding parts. IPD, FCP Euro are just a few sources. Good luck!

im not a purist when it comes to OEM replacement items... If the option presents itself to mod/upgrade, that I will opt for!

My 1999 is now 18 model years old which is well beyond reasonable obsolescence. We all live on the cusp of not having that bizarre problem with a NLA part

Many P2 parts are not being made by Volvo anymore but most are cosmetic

It really isn't surprising that Volvo isn't making parts any more. But it sounded like the shop was having a hard time getting the radiator from places like Autozone and O'Reilly. It's second had info since I haven't looked myself. Glad to hear people aren't having issues yet.

Well, I found the radiator in 8 seconds at FCP.

A lot of shops are great at repair work, but suck at parts procurement.

My indie is happy to let me find parts, I always offer to pay markup and he politely declines.

Maybe it starts to be a problem to buy a part in a blue box, but absolutely not a problem to buy the same part in a non-Volvo box.

Everything you mentioned you can get through FCP or other sites if you know part numbers, and that will be OEM parts. Like BEHR for radiators.

Of course, the other upside is if you buy blue box, when you wreck the car, you can part it out and recover the funds!!

Use a Nissans radiator from FCP, they only cost UNDER $150 and are fine. I have used them in my own cars and they're at least as good as OEM
