Good afternoon folks. Thought I would register and introduce myself after lurking for the last two months. I'm not sure I'm in the right forum so if I posted this in the wrong area mods, feel free to move this post.
My name is Gordon and I recently purchased a 1996 850 turbo with 150k miles. The seller was the second owner and purchased the car with 30 k. I have all maintenance records since then. Car was well maintained with oil changes every 3k and the timing belt is due in 10k. The driver's seat has seen better days and most of the carpet has faded to a shade of pink. Everything in the car works.
While lurking, I discovered my pvc system needed servicing. Due to the great instructions I found here, I was able to replace the system in about five hours. I also did a drain and fill of the slush box since it was as black as coal.
This weekend all the motor mounts are being replaced and yes, all blue box parts. Only other thing to refresh is shocks and struts. If I'm overlooking something, please let me know. Ignition and injectors seem to be fine since last trip of 300 miles I received about 29 mpg, not using the trip computer but miles/gallon calculation.
This is a great site and thanks to all the folks for the great write ups on repairs!
Gordon

Greetings! Your timing belt interval is 70,000 miles/7 years - are you sure it doesnt need replacement on time?
You should be on your last year of your third belt

Welcome to the forum! Sounds like you got a gem! I'd strongly recommend repairing the handbrake mechanism, if it has failed. Or verifying its function, and the condition of the cable.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I will ask one question in this thread about my timing belt then do some searches.
The timing belt was changed at 10873 miles on 12 November 2009. Car presently has 149850 miles. I'd like to draw on the collective wisdom and ask, should I change this now?
Thanks, Gordon

I would stretch it for another year or two.You still have about 30k and one year left...according to service manual.

Welcome! Plus one on waiting a year. I change my water pump every other timing belt change, but I'm sure there are many thoughts on this subject.

If you have receipts and all components were done don't worry about the TB. Get the rest of the car up to snuff over the next year or two then come back here and DIY
