2004 d5 xc90 power loss and vibration in frontside

Post by lxx_333 »

Hello.

My friend has some problems with is XC90 but because the dealer is more than 180 miles away maby you could help me with it.

Sometimes when you drive you get a message:
motormangement wartung dringend:
I believe it's morotmangement maintainance urgent.
At this poit the car has no power, and if you stop and give some gas in the park stand the RPM doesn't go highter than 2500.
If you turn of the car and start it again, it's oke for a while.

Last time this happened was with a turn at speed to the left.

Also the car vibrate a lot at the front end.
Wheels are alignd and balanced but problem stays.

Sorry for my english, but hope you know what I mean.

thanks in advandce

It would help to know where you are. The reduced speed certainly sounds like your friend's car is in "limp home mode," which happens to protect your engine and/or other expensive parts of the car. It would be best to take it to the dealer as what's going on seems it could be serious. If this were a '99-'01 model of any other Volvo, I would suspect the ETM (electronic throttle module) as the potential problem, but your car is not particularly known for this issue. It might be worth a try to get a code reader and read the diagnostic codes for the car which might tell you more than just the message center.

In regards to the front wheel vibration, one of many issues could be the cause...a bad swaybar end link, ball joint, axle shaft or tie rod end. Get these parts of the front end suspension checked out by a qualified mechanic.

Thx,

I'll look into that.
The dealer is more than 150 miles away and the road isn't that smooth.
Also last time the dealer ordered a part, a few days later he went back and still the same problem was there.
