2002 C70 Convertible Transmission

Post by eldorado98 »

I have the typical C70 tranny problem (OK when cold but acts up badly when hot. I bought the cat 4 years ago and have been living with it since. The fluid was black and burned and overfilled by about a quart. My mechanic did a flush which seemed to help for about a month. He checked the fluid again and said it was pink but there was a lot of junk at the bottom. Figuring it might be trying to clean the system after the previous neglect I told him to do another flush (expensive but worth a try). Everything was great for awhile but then started again. Six months later and my mechanic is getting nervous and thinks I should replace the transmission as he is afraid it is going to just give out entirely. Does it make sense to put in another transmission if this is typical of Volvo. Will the new tranny have the same problem? The car is in excellent condition inside and out and only has 90,000 miles on it. Anyones experience and advice will be appreciated.

A new or rebuilt transmission will cost a lot of money. What about just a rebuilt valve body? That worked for me on one of mine.

I'll ask my mechanic about that. He is a Volvo specialist so I have to rely on him. I am absolutely not a mechanic. There is a transmission shop in town but he said he will not work on Volvo's. Too bad because I love my C70 but it is scary to see so many transmission problems on this site on just about all models.

You are on a site where people with car trouble come to post, not a statistical sample of Volvo car owners
