2000 V70R transmission oil level check

Post by scot850 »

I haven't stopped laughing yet after an e-mail from the dealer foreman on how to fill/check the 5 speed auto trans on my car now the radiator has been replaced. He said you need to use a funnel and hose to fill via the dip-stick hole. I can't even see the dip-stick yet alone put a hose in there to fill it! The main wiring harness runs over the top of it and access is blocked by the turbo intercooler lower hose and the lower radiator hose. I did manage to remove it with great difficulty but nearly couldn't get it back in!!

I think I will try adding the oil through the upper cooler hose connection on the radiator, question is how much? Does anyone know the capacity of the cooler and if a Nissens is the same as an OE? I managed to catch the majority of the oil when removing the old radiator and it measures a little over 150ml, so think I will add nearer 200ml to allow for residue and any loses from the radiator.

The best laugh of all was that this is to be checked hot! You apparently need Teflon hands to do so! The dealer can check it for me!!

I have added 200ml approx. of trans fluid through the top cooler port. Will it likely be any major issue if I drive the car gently to the dealer so they can check the trans fluid level? They are about 15 miles away.
