Thanks for the advice. I'll take the belt off at the weekend and clean the pulleys and fit a spare belt as I think I have a new one in the stash that may be the right one!

Missed this thread. I bought a Nissens for a P2 T5 recently and it looked well made. As was the case with yours, there were no clips (they are stupidly expensive at Volvo dealers locally) As a side note Pro-Parts has released this clip at $1.99 @ FCP

Hopefully if you spray all that slippery residue (including the WD40) off the serpentine pulleys with throttle cleaner all that racket will cease.
Good luck with that Neil.

Thanks Mike. I'll give the cleaning a go first and then replace the belt if needed.

Like you say, the Nissens is well made with a thicker neck for the hoses than Volvos have. Only thing I don't like is the drain mechanism and I'd like to see a little ribbing on the hose connections like the OE to grip the hose better. Otherwise a very nicely made unit.

Annoyingly, I went to PnP a few days after this arrived and found a car with what looked like a brand new Nissens of the tight type!

As for parts pricing in AUS, I was speaking to a parts manager in Perth about a week ago, and they are in the process of setting up an on-line parts sales. I've asked him to let me know when it happens so I can let you know. Hopefully you may get better pricing that way!

Removed the belt, and then realised it is different to all the spare ones I have. It is longer and has a different routing and tensioner for 2000 B5244T2 engine. Called dealer but don't stock it.

Ran the engine without belt and all is quiet so at least the water pump seems ok for now (new 4kkm ago). The alternator, tensioner, serp belt and A/C compressor are all less than 8000km (5k miles) old. Only pulley that is original is the steering pump and it is quiet.

I'll clean the pulleys but still not convinced it is not a bad bearing as it is more of a squeal like a tortured bearing than a screech of a belt slipping. Had a look at the belt dressing spray and first thing it says is do not use on serpentine belts.....!

I'll clean the pulleys this afternoon and try cleaning the belt carefully to see if that will work for the short term to at least prove it is only the belt.

Finally got the new serpentine belt from Volvo, and fitted it after spending over an hour cleaning the 5 pulleys with carb cleaner, a cloth and a fine screwdriver. Naturally this is not a 'standard' serpentine belt as not used on many Volvos and so have to be ordered.

Fitted the belt today and the good news was there was no screeching/squeeling on start up and engine ran quieter than I recall it did before.

Hope to have it all buttoned up tomorrow and will hopefully now only need a the trans oil level confirmed and then get the car running before having to change to winter tires. Summer tires will have about 400km on tem since fitting in the spring. Will have to take them back to supplier to replace all the balance weights that have fallen off and fix the slow puncture in one tire. Not impressed with the so called quality installer I was told they were!

Thanks for the help and encouragement!

I cleaned the old serpentine belt up and will keep as a spare. I was strand to find small pieces of grit and what looked like metal imbedded in the grooves of the old belt. It was hard to get some out!
