98 S70, hole on top of engine...

Post by theWIFES_S70 »

I'm sure this question has been asked before, but why is there a hole on top of my engine? I feel like this is the first time I'm seeing this...

Does something go here?

It's a henway hole. If you have a 7 in your VIN you should have a henway option.

On my '94 it is for a tube belonging to the air pump system.

I'm so confused...

I was going to run the engine without the spark cover installed, the way all the pros do. But man, you can look into the engine through there! What if something entered the engine from there? I think I'll keep the cover on just to be on the safe side.

Were you thinking of running your engine with the spark plug cover off, too??? I am googling S70/850 engine images and found one with a metal railing that connects to one of those holes...

But even on that engine, there's a hole there...

Over here, I think I see the hole...

No.
But, we did have a thread a year or so ago, I think, about those holes - someone found that hole plugged with RTV goop and there was some discussion about what to do. Also, there was a "henway, what's a henway, about 5 pounds" exchange.
I'm trying to search for it, but no luck yet. I believe we figured out what the holes are for, but I must be getting old.

Edit; crlande is right, that's what it's for. In the pic you found, it doesn't seem to actually be connected to anything - looks like some kind of heating contraption?
