Hi,
New owner of a japanese import 2000 p2 V70T5 auto,my last car being a 2000 p1 s70 which I owned for 7 months while looking for an estate car (stationwagon)
I've been tidying the car up as I've had the time and getting the car to how I want -just a clean, removing aftermarket HID light system, tracing and stopping a coolant leak, new tires etc plus removing aftermarket antenna/remains of (i think) a GPS instalation.
I've been browsing this site(and a couple of others!) for a couple of weeks now and think i have a problem, the cars fitted with a HU833 stereo which has a band expander fitted for NZ radio, reception is crap to be honest so I'd like to fit a replacement.
I could go with an aftermarket system, but understand there's issues keeping the stearing wheel controls, so I was thinking of buying a US/Aus spec head Deck(prefered option if Aux/usb is added) which would keep them and recive local radio-but from what I've been reading thats going to have issues as well.
This sort of thing is well outside my experiance.
What factory head unit's can be installed without major problems -I've found a HU603 but I'm not sure if it's good for NZ or even if it would work.
Or what's needed to install an aftermarket head unit(my normal prefrence is for JVC) and still have the SWC work.
Thanks in advance.
Sid

Welcome aboard and oh my! I have no idea on the questions you ask about the head unit. Let me put this post in the audio section of our forum and maybe you'll get a better response there. The FM band for one might be different between your country and others - like our band in the U.S. It goes from 89.9 I think to 108 or something like that. It could be a software thing to get that band to be different. Anyway, yes- people have put after market stereos in their Volvo's P2's as well and for that it would be model year 2001 and up to '07. I know the 2000 there is what 2001 is here. Anyway, I'm putting this thread in the audio section- a ghost thread will stay here so folks will still find it here.

cheers -I've tried to regester on Sweedspeed but there's issues with verification.
I've been reading stuff on there as well , still not sure what the best option would be.
US fm frequency is the same as NZ/Aus,the HU603 turns out to be in a NZ new car though so that's all good, but all the info I'm finding is contradictory, may well give this 603 a try it's cheap enough and aslong as I don't blow somthing up........

The only issue you're going to have is that it's an "HU" unit so I'm sorry but I believe that it has to be "married" to you car. The only way around that is for the dealer to pair the unit to your car or you can download VIDA and buy a DICE kit to hook things up yourself for the pairing, but still I wouldn't know where you would start with that- you would have to ask questions and get the right answers. May be cheaper just to pay the dealer. On the older "SC" radio units, we just needed a 4 digit password or Pin number and we were all set.Sid201 wrote: it's cheap enough and aslong as I don't blow somthing up........

Hi Sid201.
I purchased my Jap imported 2002 V40 in 2012. It is fitted with a Volvo HU735 head unit which is limited to FM band range 76.3 - 89.9.
I put up with it for a while as was but eventually decided to fit a FM band expander.
I purchased from 'Electronic Developments' in Auckland a PB1000-14 FM converter along with a Volvo adaptor kit to allow connection to the OEM wiring and aerial.
Was simple to fit and it has worked beautifully from the start. I have no FM reception issues at all and down here in Wellington now and more importantly, get a lot more FM radio stations than I did initially.
Their website is www.edl.co.nz. Phone 09 636 7923. (anyone phoning from outside NZ add +64 in front)
They have a full range of band expanders especially for Jap Imports so they may be able to fix your reception problems or at least lessen them.
Hope this is useful and welcome to the forum.
