Hard to find a 98 V70 T5 in our area?!

Post by scot850 »

So I am looking for a V70 T5 (or even a GLT), ideally from 1998 for the simpler electronics and management, not too concerned about condition but ideally running. I want it as a mobile test bed for all the electrical parts I buy from PnP so as to stop having to pull my 'R' apart. Strange thing is that since I've been looking the only ones that turn up have been at PnP. Even those were some time ago. Not even a 99 or 00 has appeared. Several NA's have appeared, but where is the fun in those? Might as well have fun while working. Are these beasts becoming as rare as they appear to have become in our area around Southern Alberta? Maybe if you want one you should rush out and buy one while you can!

I want a car I can leave the glove box out of, and the PS under tray to test the fan motors and Resistors controllers, and temp sensors, as well as the cabin temp sensors and ECC units. Also the radio HU's and amps/cables. Once these are all done I'll give the car a tidy and sell it on. Just have to find one now...., it appears this could take a while!

Wish I could use an 850 as this just came on the market tonight:

One owner and full history, under a 100,000 miles and for about $1800 US! Wow.

Neil I'm not following, when you say electrical parts, do you mean body parts? The 97 850 and the 98 V70 are essentially identical for all of the moving parts including all supporting electrical under the hood. And a bunch of that doesn't work for your '00 ... you are talking body parts then, door locks and the like?

And I don't see many 98 T5 wagons for sale, no!

Maybe we could develop better test protocols for the parts using better tools?

Do you have a list of stuff you want to buy and test?

The electrical parts are mostly for the heating system, not body parts. I already have so many of the parts, heater fan motors, cabin temp sensors, intake temp sensor at the resistor pack, resistor packs, ECC units. These are not common with the 850 (possibly the fan motors) as far as I know, otherwise I'd be out there buying the 850 GLT with low miles. If there is a way to test the cabin temp sensors and resistor packs out with a car, then I'd be happy to do so. The advantage of having a car is then to be able to test them all at once and have a bit of tinkering time as well, but my wife would probably be happier if I could test these systems without the car. If someone with the knowledge can help with that I'd be happy to work out some way of testing them on a bench.

Appreciate the help.
