OEM 1 ECU diagnostic tool doesn't function
The mint condition 1993 Volvo 960 Executive has a low km engine that ran smoothly for the first 15,000 km after purchase. The OEM1 diagnostic tool doesn't function and now some sensors may need to be cleaned or replaced. They are expensive and I love the car, so the first priority is to have an ECU with a diagnostic tool that functions. Would a newer modern ECU off of a later Volvo with a new wiring harness be a possible swap? I live in Thailand without and Volvo technicians, but we have many old Volvo parts because Thai people take them out and put in Toyota engines. I can take a transmission off, but I'm not good with electronics. It's pretty clear the mass airflow sensor has an issue because the exhaust gas into the airbox hasn't functioned and it's been hot. It could also need many other things like a fuel pressure regulator and temperature sensor and I'd rather not keep guessing for the next twenty years. If someone would be so kind as to share options for repairing or fixing the diagnostic tool, that would be kindly appreciated.
The diagnostic tool now functions and we pulled code 113 and 115. The intake manifold was taken off and all the ground connections were cleaned. Now the black smoke is gone and the ABS light doesn't come on. The car shakes under load, less and less, when it's driven at low RPMs (under 110 km/hour). I'm going to change out the spark plugs today and see if that fixes it.
